We arrived on Panglao on December 19th. Friends had sent 4 boxes of books for the Book Bus Program. There are 786 books to give away! We distributed 50 books to a preschool. The families of our five pastors who administer the school scholarship funds chose over 200 books to enjoy at home. 17 books have been given as Christmas gifts to individual children we know in the villages. We took 220 books out to a tourist island and the small church there gathered the island children for a distribution. We are taking over 100 books to a private elementary school run by missionaries today. We will store the remaining books to distribute when we return with a mission team from our school in Seoul in March. Many thanks to those who donated books. The children absolutely love getting books of their own and literacy is being supported while we partner with the churches to distribute. THANKS!
High school students from Seoul, South Korea visited us for a short term mission trip. They helped the Love Asia Ministries Book Bus distribute 150 books to children on the island of Panglao. Thanks to those who have sent boxes of donated books to the Philippines. The children are so serious about their selection and then so pleased with their very own book!

organization collects used children's books from yard sales or second hand
stores. A shipping representative in your area is contacted to purchase a
Filipino Balikbayan box. Your organization places the Love Literacy Labels in
each book, packs the box, and fills out the shipping form. The shipping agent will
come to your door to pick up the box and receive payment. The regular box
is usually around $90 and the jumbo box is $130. (Prices vary depending on
Since World War II,
Filipinos have been employed all over the world. In an effort to provide
families at home with goods from other countries, the overseas Filipino workers
have created a remarkable shipping method. Balikbayan boxes can be shipped by
boat from most countries in the world for relatively inexpensive rates. We will
locate the closest shipping representative to you. There are no weight limits
for the boxes, which makes them an excellent choice for shipping children's
books. Simply call the shipping company in your area, load the box, and fill
out the shipping form. It takes about 4 to 6 weeks for the box to arrive in the
The Book Bus...
Love Asia Ministries has
been working with local communities on the island of Panglao
for over 6 years. One of the major needs expressed by parents, teachers, and
community leaders has been assistance with education and literacy. The Book Bus
is designed to make weekly stops in communities. A read-aloud book will be
shared with the children and each child will be allowed to choose one book to
take home. Each book will have a Love Literacy Label attached to the inside
front cover with a special encouraging message for the child. Children will be
encouraged to keep the book, read it and re-read it with their family, and
share it with friends. Our goal is to get books in the hands of children and
increase literacy. This is NOT a library loan program. The books will belong to
the children and will foster a love of books and reading.
If you or your
organization are interested in donating books, simply e-mail us at email@example.com. Include your name, phone number, and address. We will mail you a
packet that outlines the entire program and you can get started!
